For those of you who are new to Assembly Park or never had the chance to meet Kay Fiedler, the Board of Directors, at the time of her passing, decided to honor her with this award, because…

Kay Fiedler is part of the fabric of Assembly Park and loved being here with all her heart. She started coming to the lake when she was a young girl with her mother and grandmother. They owned a cottage near Kelly Park for several years, unfortunately had to sell, but this didn’t stop Kay from dreaming of owning another cottage someday. While they were raising their young family, Ray and Kay rented one of the Hilltop cottages for a week in August each year. Finally, in 1966, while Kay was pregnant with their sixth child, they were able to purchase their own cottage, Shady Oaks.

Some words used to describe Kay Fiedler are kind, loving, fun, genuine, accepting, generous, no nonsense, hardworking. She welcomed everyone into her home where many of you have had coffee or a drink, shared a meal and played dominos. Kay had life long friendships here but was also a friend to so many, both young and old.

Kay Fiedler dedicated her life to helping others. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed participating in all the activities in the park and especially loved Arbor Day. She was a woman of great integrity and a role model not only for family but for the entire community. Through her daily actions she taught us to respect one another, peacefully work through differences and take the high road.

Yes, this award honors the memory of Kay Fiedler but it also helps us remember who we are as a community and encourages us recognize goodness in others.
